De Zanzibar al Kilimanjaro / From Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro

En un par de horas cogemos de nuevo el ferry hacia Dar es Salaam para hacer noche y meternos de nuevo en un bus 10 horas hasta Arusha...vamos al Kilimanjaro!! :)
Gracias a Moses, un couchsurfer que conocimos en Nairobi, hemos conseguido un precio estupendo por 1 dia de trekking en el Kilimanjaro y 1 dia de excursion para subir a la caldera del Ngorongoro...estamos emosionaos!
Ademas nos acompanya Kate, la chica americana que conocimos en Lamu y volvimos a ver en Diani Beach.

Problemas con los videos
Sabemos que os encantan los videos pero el programa con el que los editamos nos ha dejao tiraos: piden codigo de activacion. Asi que seguimos grabando y en cuanto podamos arreglarlo los subiremos. Que de momento tenemos pendientes el de la Boda Suahili (la boda de Lolita no es na!) y lo que dio de si la Costa Este de Africa.

5 Dias en Zanzibar
Gracias a los consejos de mi amiga Carmen (Puerto Santa Maria-BCN), hemos visto algunos joyas como Diani Beach. Aunque en el caso de Zanzibar no le hicimos caso y finalmente vinimos. Es cierto que es mas cara que el resto de la costa Este de Africa, pero nos lo hemos montado bien y hemos dormido en la casa de huespedes de Juma, un rastafari muy majo, por 7 euros cada uno en una habitacion increible! Y como hemos dormido en Stone Town todas las noches, no hemos pagado el dineral que piden en los hoteles de playa. Eso si, nos hemos metido viajes de 1;30h en 'daladala' para llegar a la playa. Un daladala es una camioneta en la que meten tanta gente como puedan...hemos llegado a ir 45 personas en un espacio para 20...

In a couple of hourse we will be in the ferry to Dar es Salaam again. After sleeping in a hostel there, we will getting a 10 hours bus (once more) to go to Arusha where we are going to make a trekking in Kilimanjaro!!
Thanxs to Moses, a great CS member we met in Nairobi, we got an awesome price to make 1 day trip in Kilimanjaro and 1 day trip to Ngorongoro 'caldera'. And our American friend, Kate, the one we met in Lamu, is joining us!

Porblems with the videos
We know you all love our videos but the editing program we were using is asking us for a verification code that we cannot get without a Wifi connection at Belen's laptop. So, we will be shooting more videos and updating them ASAP. We still have to publish the ones for the Suahili wedding and the Eastern African Coast days.

5 Days in Zanzibar
Thanxs to the advices of my frien (Puerto Santa Maria-BCN), we have discovered some treasures as Diani Beach. But in the case of Zanzibar, we didn't heard her and finally came to the island. Although it is true that the island is more expensive than other places, we were lucky and spent a really low budget. We were hosted at a Rasta man guest house in a huge room for 8USD each, and we took the 'daladala' to go to the beach everyday. A daladala is like a small truck where they carry the most people they can. We were 45 people in a place for 20...

En Zanzibar - In Zanzibar

Desde el puerto de Dar es Salaam

Despues de 8 horas de bus desde Ukunda, pasar el control de pasaporte (y pagar 50 Dolares, claro), ser hospedados por dos couchsurfers super simpaticos (Saqib & Hannah) en Dar es Salaam, comer pizza en el Hilton (habia noche 2x1, jajaja)...esta manyana hemos llegado a Zanzibar en barco. Dormimos en la mejor habitacion que hemos tenido hasta la fecha en casa de un rastafari llamado James. Ea!

Pd. Tanzania tiene asfalto y pasos de cebra. Es la nueva Benidorm. No es Africa!

After a 8h bus trip from Ukunda, crossing (and paying 50USD) the Tanzanian border, being hosted by a lovely Couchsurfing couple (Saqib & Hannah) in Dar es Salaam, this morning we have arrived to Zanzibar by boat. We are staying at a great room in a rasta-man house. Cool!

PS. Tanzania has pavement in its roads and cebra crossings!! it's not Africa!

Diani Beach

A pesar de nuestras reticencias porque Diani es una zona bastante turistica de Kenya, han sido unos dias geniales! Nos reencontramos con Kate y Steven y disfrutamos de un peazo de hostal por menos de 7,5 euros por cabeza!!

Y lo mejor...conocimos por casualidad cuando ibamos a devolver las botellas de coca-cola (eran de vidrio) a Fatima (Kenya-Somalia) y Pierre (Francia), una pareja increible que esta apostando por la produccion de spirulina en su granja. No solo compartimos buena charla, si no que nos invitaron a su casa a cenar. Pierre hizo un gazpacho increible y yo me estrene con la primera paella de mi vida!!!

pd. Belen dira si estuvo buena o no, jeje.

Although we though Diani was going to be quite touristic after being in the quite Lamu, we had great days in there! We met again with Kate and Steven and enjoyed a awesome hostel for less than 8 USD per night!!

An the best part (by casuality when we were returning our soda bottles), we met Fatima (Kenyan-Somalian) and Pierre (French). An amazing couple who are producing spirulina in their farm. We not only had a great chat with them, they also invited us to have dinner at their home. Pierre made a great gazpacho and I cooked my first paella!! (in my life, I mean).

Ps. Belen will judge the paella better than me, he he he.

La boda suhahili - The suahili wedding

Os dejamos con un resumen de lo que dio de si la boda a la que nos invito nuestra amiga Talha en Mombasa. Increible en cuanto a colores y alegria. Eso si, es una fiesta pensada para mujeres. Son tres dias:

1-En la casa y calle de los padres de la novia se cantaron y bailaron canciones del norte de la costa de Kenya todo el dia y gran parte de la noche, pero todo protagonizado por mujeres. Los hombres solo miran.

2-Igual que el primer dia pero con musica de Tanzania, tambien tiene lugar la ceremonia en la Mezquita: el novio y el padre de la novia cierran la union. Las mujeres no pueden entrar al templo.

3-Almuerzo comunal en el que primero comen los hombres y luego las mujeres en diferentes turnos, y por la noche, el gran momento. Los novios por fin aparecen en los festejos y vestidos de gala se hacen fotos con los asistentes y cantan. En esta ocasion la musica fue de Mombasa.

Sin duda, nuestro agradecimiento a Talha y todas sus hermanas, su madre y sus hijos por lo bien que nos trataron. Ahsante sana!!

Here you are some pictures of the suahili wedding we attending thanxs to our friend Talha in Mombasa. Incredible colorful and happy party, but focused on women. The 3 day:

1-At the bride's parents house, lot of friends and family sing and dance together  all day and night long. But everything is focused on women. Men just look.

2-Same as the day before but with Tanzanian music and it took place the official ceremony in the Mosque, where the Prom and the bride's father close the union. Women are not allowed to get into the temple.

3-Popular lunch where first men eat and then women do, in different turns. And the big moment is in the evening, when at last, the new couple appear for dancing and take pics with the attendants. In this time, we had Mombasa music.

Our biggest thanxs to Talha and her sisters, mother and kids for taking care of us. Ahsante sana!!

No os podeis imaginar la fiesta que le hicimos a la lavadora de nuestro hostal de Diani Beach (costa sur de Kenya). Casi lloramos. Abajo una foto de como hemos lavado hasta ahora en los banyos del resto de hostales, sin luz, estilo minero.

You cannot imagine how happy we got when we discovered we they had a washing machine in our Diani Beach Hostel (Southern Coast, Kenya). Beneath, you can check how we have been washing our clothes in the rest of the toilets, without light.

Bye Lamu, Hello Mombasa!

Esta noche nos metemos de nuevo unas cuantas horas de bus para llegar a Mombasa para asistir a la boda suahili. Nos dejamos un trocito de corazon en Lamu. teneis que venir a verla!!

Anoche conocimos a dos chicos americanos que han estado de voluntarios en Uganda, Kate y Steven. Y quiza volvamos a coincidir con ella en Tanzania. Cenamos como reyes por 5 euros por cabeza :)

Tonite we will have a long way back to Mombasa for attending the suahili wedding. We leave Lamu but we will keep always a piece of our heart for this beautiful island. Yo have to visit it!

Yesterday we met two Americans volunteers who have been working in Uganda, Kate and Steven. And maybe we will meet her again in Tanzania. We had a Royal diner for 5 euros each :)
