Bolivia IV: Samaipata, Cochabamba, La Paz & Isla del Sol

SAMAIPATA

Tras el reencuentro con la hermana de Belén pusimos rumbo a Samaipata, una aldea tropical medio hippie (artesanos viajeros copan su plaza) con un Fuerte Inca patrimonio de la Humanidad (excavado en una única piedra!) y varias cascadas con piscinas naturales preciosas.
Allí nos reencontramos por casulidad con Sheena, una chica británica con la que coincidimos en el hostal de Tupiza y que ha terminado uniéndose a nuestra ruta hasta hoy. Y como las coincidencias son una tónica habitual en nuestro viaje, en Samaipata conocimos Patricia y Pablo, dos madrileños que habían conocido a nuestro amigo Luis (con el que nos reencontramos en Chile el mes pasado) en el hostal de La Paz donde se hospedaban. Por último, también conocimos a Adriana (mitad chilena, mitad estadounidense) una estudiante de medicina que ayudó a Belén a curarse de su gastroenteritis.

Lovely waterfalls

After meetin Belén's sister in Sucre, we went on with our route to Samaipata, a tropical village, sort of hippy land (lots of traveller-artisians in their streets), an Inca Fort (made of a single huge stone!) which is Humanity Patromony and some lovely natural pools and waterfalls.
We meet there Sheen by chance, a British girl we first met in our hostel in Tupiza who finally joined the two of us till today. Coincidences are a must in our trip, so we also met there Patricia and Pablo, two Spanish from Madrid who met also our friend Luis (the one we re-met in Chile!) in their hostel in La Paz. Such a small world! Finally, we also met in Samaipata Adriana, a half US, half Chilean Medicine student who helped Belén with her stomach problems.

COCHABAMBA

La tercera ciudad más grande de Bolivia nos soprendió por su gran bullicio universitario y por deleitarnos con una tortilla de patatas, sangría y un gulash buenísimos! Je, je. Allí visitamos su famoso Cristo (más grande que el de Río de Janeiro, copia del mismo, por cierto), su teleferico y la gran ruta turística que nos dio Pepo, un amigo de Beto (al que conocimos en Tarija).

Third biggest city in Bolivia, Cochabamba, surprised us due to its Universitary lifestyle and offered us an amazing Hungarian gulash and Spanish omelette and sangria!! he he he. There we visited its famouse Christ statue (bigger than Rio de Janeiro's one but also a copy of that), its cable car and a lovely route that Pepo made for us. He is Berto's friend, the guy we met in Tarija.

LA PAZ

En La Paz tuvimos la gran suerte de ser hospedados por Manuel y Jesús, amigos de España  en una zona super dinámica, la Plaza Isabel La Católica en Sopopacci. Sin duda, una de las ciudades que más nos han gustado en Sudamérica hasta la fecha. Combina modernidad y tradición, tiene muchísima vida, grandes sitios para comer (el Mercado de La Lanza es genial!), y cultura a raudales. Y comprass...muchas compras baratas jejeje y fiesta, demasiada! Nos lo pasamos genial en La Paz.

In La Paz we were so lucky as Manuel and Jesús (two friends from Spain) hosted us in a lovely and trendy area (Isabel La Católica Square, Sopopacci quartier). One of the cities we have liked the most in Southamerica so far. You can find modernity, tradition, culturel, great vibe and food (La Lanza Market is amazing!).. And for sure, lots of shopping and party, maybe too much party hehehe. We really enjoyed La Paz.

COPACABANA & ISLA DEL SOL

Sin duda tras el ajetreo urbano de La Paz, nada mejor que escaparnos a la Isla del Sol en el Lago Titikaka, un paraíso!! Hicimos noche en Copacabana y al día siguiente cogimos el primer barco a la isla. No podíamos imaginar que la isla junto a la magia propia que de por sí tiene, nos depararía aventuras (nos perdimos 6h por las montañas!), un escenario increíble para celebrar el cumpleaños de Belén (2 de agosto) y una 'familia'. Y es que allí conocimos a Belén (otra más), Emanuel y Hernán (los 3 de Argentina), Camilla y Lizaria (Brasil) y Benjamin (USA-Francia). Junto a Sheena, hemos formado una familia numerosa con la cuál cruzar a Perú :)

After La Paz noisy days, we found real peace in Isla del Sol (Sun island) in Titikaka Lake. We stayed one night in Copacabana and from there, the following morning, we took a boat to Isla del Sol, a real paradise!
We would never have imagined that this magical island would give us such amazing things: adventure (we got lost 6 hours in the mountains!), a lovely place to celebrate Belén's b-day (2nd of August) and a 'family'! As there we met Belén (a new one!), Emanuel and Hernán (the three of them from Argentina), Camilla and Liziaria (Brazil) and Benjamin (USA-France). Together with Sheena, we have made a big family to travel with to Peru.
