Son muchos los sitios que hemos visitado con ganas, pero si hay uno que nos atraía especialmente por los vínculos culturales que tenemos en común, sin duda es Sudamérica.
Los últimos tres meses y medio de nuestra vuelta al mundo los pasaremos a caballo entre Chile, Bolivia, Perú, Brasil y Argentina.

Tere are so many places we have enjoyed so far, but Sout America is one of the most we were looking forward to visit. Culturally, is so exciting for us travel around here. We will be next (and last!) three and half months of our round the world trip in Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil & Argentina.

Gracias a Carola y Javier, pareja de chilenos que conocimos en Laos y que nos acogió en su casa en Sydney (Australia) teníamos unas ganas locas de pisar estas tierras y poner en práctica todo el vocabulario que habíamos aprendido de ellos :P

Thanks to Carola & Javier, a Chilean couple we met in Laos and hosted us in their Sydney flat too, we were ready to land in here and practise all the vocabulary and slang the taught us :P

SANTIAGO

Yo (JL) conocía Santiago de Chile por trabajo, pero sin duda, no hay color en venir con el tiempo justo de organizar reuniones y volar de vuelta a venir 'de verdad', he he.
Como siempre, Santiago ha sido otro lugar que querremos siempre por la gente que hemos encontrado aquí. Desde Hugo, Evelyn y Alexis (ex vecinos y amigos de mi hermana Elena y mi cuñado Jesús en Marbella) que nos recogieron en el aeropuerto y nos pusieron al día de la comida local, hasta Nat (con la que Belén coincidió a penas dos noches en el hostel de Sydney) que nos abrió su grupo de amigos y nos enseñaron la Santiago más canalla y trasnochada :D

I (JL) knew Santiago before as I came some years ago for business, but there's a huge difference of visiting it working and travelling, he he.
Once again, Santiago we will be always in our mind thanks to the people we met there. Lovely guys as Hugo, Evelyn & Alexis (they used to be my sister Elena and my brother in law Jesus neighbourghs in Marbella) who picked up us from the airport and showed us the bes street food in town; or Nat (who shared hostel with Belen in Sydney for only two nites) and show us the wildest Santiago at night hehehe and introduced us their amazing friends. Rulo, Héctor and the Cuban hurricane...Lis!! We will miss u!!

Como ciudad, Santiago vive a caballo entre un desarrollo económico y financiero disparado, los edificios coloniales que aún recuerdan que fue una de las primeras ciudades que se fundaron en el continente, los barrios bohemios llenos de fantásticos grafitis (Bellavista, Barrio Brasil) y las áreas más de moda (Lastarrias) y adineradas (Las Condes, Providencia, Las Colinas...)

Santiago city moves itself between a huge economical and financial development, the Colonial Architechture heritage, lovely bohemian areas (Brasil, Bellavista), trenddy neighbourhoods (Lastarrias) and posh villages (Las Condes, Providencia, Las Colinas...)

VALPARAÍSO

Es imposible no enamorarse de esta ciudad de colores y contrastes. 'Valpo' fue uno de los primeros puertos en Chile y su paisaje recuerda a Lisboa: rodeada de colinas con sus bellas casitas y grafitis y ascensores de madera para subir a los cerros.
Puedes ver desde lobos marinos y pinguinos en el puerto o coger la peor de las resacas por culpa del llamado 'Terremoto': vino blanco, pisco (aguardiente), granadina y bola de helado de piña. Matador.

Is impossible not to get in love with that colourfull city. 'Valpo' was one of the first harbours in the country and its landscape reminds to Lisbon: sourrended by hills with beautiful houses and graffitis, and old wood elevators to get to those hills.
You can see seals and penguins in the harbour or get the worst hangover in the world with a 'Terremoto (Earthquacke)': a bloody drink with pisco, white wine, grenadine and pinaple icecream scoop on top. A killer.

Kaikoura, Christchurch, Oamaru, Moeraki Bouldiers, Sant Bathlans, Queenstown, Wanaka, Fox Glacier, Nelson.

Ah, se me olvidó comentar que en esta etapa del viaje, ya que Nueva Zelanda es un lugar fácil para conducir (a pesar de que conducen por la izquierda ;P), un paisaje precioso que acompaña, y teniendo en cuenta que yo recuperé algo de presupuesto trabajando en Australia, decidimos alquilar un coche para recorrer el país. Así que por aquí os dejamos también algunas fotos del camino en carretera.
El paisaje cruzando en ferry hacia la otra isla también es muy bonito, a veces hasta se pueden ver ballenas cruzando.

Kaikoura es el lugar ideal para el avistamiento de ballenas, nadar con delfines en mar abierto, y ver la colonia de focas. Creo que de la isla sur, éste es mi lugar favorito.

I forgot to coment that in this time of the trip, since New Zealand is an easy place for driving (despite that they drive on the left side of the road ;P), it has a beautiful landscape, and considering
that I had been working in Australia and I could save some money, we decided to rent a car to go across the country. So, in here I put some pictures from our way on the road.
The landscape that you see when you cross by ferry to the other island is also very beautiful, sometimes you can see whales passing.

Kaikoura is the right place for the whale watch, swim with wild dolphins, and see the seals colony. I think that from the south island, this is my favourite place.

Kaikura

Christchurch. Estuve aquí justo unos meses antes del primer terremoto de 2010, y tengo que decir que es una pena ver hoy como la ciudad en general y la iglesia del centro, el monumento más antiguo e icono de la ciudad está casi destruida...Aunque por otra parte, es emocionante ver como se está reconstruyendo toda la ciudad y la gente, poco a poco está pasando página.
Y tengo que mencionar a Daniela!, que vive en Christchurch, una amiga de un amigo, con la que mantuve contacto y no pude quedar en mi primera visita, y que en esta ocasión ya fue posible :)

Christchurch. I was there just few months before the first earthquake in 2010, and I have to say that is a shame to see now how the city in general and the church located in the centre, the oldest monument and the city's icon is almost destroyed... But in the other hand, is touching how the whole city is been rebuilt and the peolpe less by less is turning the page. And I have to mention to Daniela!, who lives in Christchurch, a friend of a friend we were in touch and we couldn't met in my first visit, this time it was posible :)

Oamaru. En nuestro camino a Dunedin para ver pingüinos, recogimos a un chico alemán, Matias, que estaba haciendo autoestop, y nos habló de Oamaru, un pueblecito victoriano. Nos gustó tanto, que decidimos quedarnos un par de días. Como pudimos ver los pingüinos aquí, cambiamos nuestros planes y nos fuimos directamente para Queenstown.

Oamaru. In our way to Dunedin to see the penguins, we picked up a german guy, Matias, who was doing hitchhiking, and he told us about Oamaru, a victorian town. We liked so much, that we decided to stay for few days. As we could see the penguins here, we changed our plans and went directly to Queenstown.

Moeraki Bouldiers. Otra parada obligatoria antes de seguir el camino. Son unas rocas grandes y esféricas que se extienden a lo largo de la playa Koekohe. A estas rocas se les ha quedado esa forma por una arenilla sedimentaria que las ha ido erosionado y desenterrado dejándolas en la superficie a lo largo de la costa.

Moeraki Bouldiers. A spot to stop before keep going. They are an unusually large and spherical boulders lying along a stretch of Koekohe Beach. These boulders have been exhumed from the mudstone enclosing them and they have been concentrated on the beach by the coastal erosion.

Sant Bathlans. Otro pueblecito victoriano que nos encontramos por el camino, con un lago precioso.

Queenstown es una ciudad muy bonita, pero es más como una ciudad-resort para deportes de invierno como el esquí, snowboard... Asentada sobre el lago Wakatipu, tiene unas vistas preciosas de las montañas. Y es en Queenstown, en Fergburger donde te puedes comer una pedazo de hamburguesa, y elegir varios tipos de carne, como cordero, ciervo...y además está buenísima.

Queenstown is a beautiful town, but it's more like a resort town for winter sports like skiing, nowboarding...Built by the lake Wakatipu, it also has beautiful views of the mountains. And it is in Queenstown, in Fergburger where you can eat a huge burger, and choose differents types of meat, as lamb, deer... and they are awesome.

Wanaka es también un bonito pueblo cerca de Queenstown, asentado sobre el lago Wanaka. También tiene vistas preciosas de las montañas, pero desafortunadamente había un poco de niebla cuando estuvimos allí. Igualmente difrutamos las vistas del lago y como hacía rasquilla no nos importó quedarnos cerca de la chimenea del hostal.

Wanaka is also a small beautiful town near Queenstown, built by the lake Wanaka. It also has beautiful views of the montains. Unfortunately it was a bit foggy when we were there, but we enjoyed the view of the lake and since it was a bit cold we also enjoyed satying in the hostel by the fireplace.

Fox Glacier. Como su nombre indica, es un glaciar de 13km, y junto a su vecino Franz Josef Glacier, que fue el que yo visité entonces, es uno de los glaciares más accesibles del mundo. Esta vez José Luis fue el que se adentró en el hielo, y conoció a unas canarias muy simpáticas. Y lo mejor, como teníamos coche fuimos hasta Franz Josef para ver a Danya!!, una chica británica que conoció Jose Luis en Australia. Los viajeros siempre nos reencontramos ;)

Fox Glacier. As its name shows, is a glaciar of 13km length, and like the nearby Franz Josef Glacier, the one I've visited in my fisrt time, it is one of the most accessible glaciers in the world. Well, this time it was José Luis the one who went into the ice, where he met two very nice canarian guys. And the best thing, as we has the car, we went till Franz Josef to see Danya!!, a british girl, who Jose Luis met in Australia. Travellers we always meet again ;)

Nelson. Nuestra última parada en la isla sur, y justo el centro de Nueva Zelanda. Probamos el famoso fish and chips neozelandés, y la sidra de cereza. Y aquí nos acogió un profesor kiwi con el mismo buen humor que el nuestro, nos reimos mucho con él, hablando, cocinando y viendo una peli. La verdad que ha sido muy buena nuestra experiencia con los kiwis (no se si lo he mencionado, pero aquí se les llama así a los neozelandeses).

Nelson. Our last stop in the South Island, and just in the centre of New Zealand. We tasted the famous New Zealand's fish & chips, and the cherry cider. And here we were hosted by a kiwi teacher with the same good sense of humour like us, we laughed a lot, talking, cooking and watching a movie. Our experience with the kiwi people had been awesome.
