Lo cierto
es que por muchas fotos o vídeos que pongamos de nuestros días en Kiburanga, va
a ser imposible explicar bien qué estamos viviendo y haciendo aquí. Sin duda,
las expectativas están más que cubiertas y es que hemos logrado un buen tándem
entre lo que ellos podían ofrecernos y
en lo que nosotros podemos ayudar.
Kuria es
literalmente una de las zonas más pobres de Kenya. El núcleo urbano más cercano
es Nyabohanse, un pueblo que es básicamente un mercado con una única calle
comercial donde a diario se va la luz unas cuantas horas. Nosotros estamos en
medio del campo, a 2 km del pueblo, desde donde acudimos cada día a trabajar
con el portátil conectado a un kiosko donde recargan móviles por 10 Ksh.

Hemos
tenido la inmensa suerte de ser acogidos por Mama Deo, la madre de Mike (uno de
los fundadores) y su maravillosa familia. Y es una suerte porque, a parte de
tenernos como reyes a pesar de que no hay colchones para todos, estamos
viviendo con ellos y como ellos: no hay agua corriente ni luz. Pero estamos
felices, tanto o más que ellos. Y éso es difícil.

Creando
el Canal Oficial de Youtube con Mini Reportajes
Como la
profesión se lleva por dentro (je je), el punto periodista salió al minuto cero
de llegar y es que la historia de Kiburanga merece un Documental de los
grandes. Con los medios que tenemos, estamos haciendo mini reportajes de los
proyectos e iniciativas que están desarrollando y entrevistando a todas las
mujeres que forman el grupo y sus hijos.
La
experiencia como podéis imaginar está siendo increíble porque estamos
conociendo de primera mano a la gran mayoría de mujeres, que sin duda, son unas
luchadoras natas. Y siempre con una sonrisa y los pies dispuestos para bailar
:)

Nuestra
pequeña aportación
Tenemos que
dar las gracias a la increíble respuesta que ya estamos recibiendo por parte de
algunos familiares y amigos a la anterior llamada que hicimos en el blog
(especial agradecimiento a mi hermana Maruja, mi cuñaaaaooooo Mario y mi
sobrino Mariete :).
Junto a
esto, Belén y yo hemos sumado una pequeña cantidad de dinero que estamos
empleando en ayudar de alguna manera a ciertos miembros del grupo que
verdaderamente lo necesitan. Para que os hagáis una idea, la mayoría de las
familias no supera los 150 USD anuales, y muchas superan los 6 miembros.
De este
modo, ayer se nos llenó el corazón de alegría al llevarle dos colchones nuevos
a Clemencia Sore (el miembro más anciano del grupo, con más de 80 años -ni qué
decir que muchos no saben con exactitud la edad que tienen...) y la mujer que
acoge en su casa junto a sus 5 hijos. Ésta última mujer y sus hijos dormían
hasta ayer en el suelo junto a las gallinas.

Y hoy mismo
vamos a repartir 10 packs con cosas básicas que hemos comprado en el mercado a
las 10 mujeres con menos recursos del grupo: carbón, cerillas, jabón, azúcar,
sal y aceite. Y no deja de ser 1,5 euros lo que cuesta cada pack que hemos hecho.
Como véis, con muy poco se puede hacer mucho.
El miércoles
12 por la nocha volvemos a Nairobi antes de volar a Asia. Sin duda, vamos a
echar de menos Kiburanga.

There are
no enough pictures or videos to explain what are we doing and living in
Kiburanga. Our first expectations are satisfied for sure. We are so glad for
the great mix between what we can do for them and what they can offer us.
Kuria is on
of the poorest areas in Kenya. The closet urban point is Nyabohanse: a market
area with just one main street. It is 2 km from Mama Deo's home, where we are
hosted. And we go once or twice every day there for working in a Kiosk (you pay
0, 10 Euros for charging any device) as there is no power at home. But usually,
there several electricity cuts daily, so...you can guess how easy is to edit
videos....

We are
extremely lucky that our host family is Deo's one. Mama Deo (Mike's mum, one of
the founders) and her family are lovely. It is a luck for us because, one hand
they are treating us like Kings, and on the other hand, we are really living
the Kurian life: no electricity, no water but we are happy! Almost as happy as
them, and they are sooooo happy :).

Kiburanga Official Youtube Channel Documentaries
Maybe is my
professional blood, but since the first moment we arrived to here, I realised
Kiburanga Project deserves a big movie, a Documentary one. So, with the
equipment and knowledge we have, we at least can creat for them their official
youtube channel. We are interviewing al ladies members, children and shooting their
projects..
As you can
imagine, the experience is being awesome. We are meeting all the women, a real
fighter group for the life they are living. And even thought, they are always
smiling and ready to dance!

Our
small contribution
We have to
thank you all of you who already answered our latest post asking for
contribution with Kiburanga as a Christmans present for your relatives and
friends (special thanks to mi sister Maruja, my brother in law Mario and my
nephew Mariete ;)
Besides
that family contribution, Belén and me have saved a small amount of money
for helping in some way to some women in the group who really need it. Most
of the families in here have a maximum of 150 USD every year of income and some
are more than 6 family members.
So, in that
way, yesterday we got really emotional when we bought 2 mattresses for the
oldest lady in the group: Clemencia Sore (more than 80 years, but she doesn't
know exactly her age, as a lot of them...). Even she is so old, she is hosting
with her another lady who has 5 kids and they were sleeping in the floor close
to the chickens till yesterday.

And today
we have started a distribution of 13 packs (thanks to the contribution of
Dennis) with basic cooking things as sugar, matches, oil, salt or soap. This
packs are for the 13 ladies with less income and more needs. Every pack just
costed 1,5 euros....with just a little bit, we can male huge things in here.
Next
Wednesday 12th of December we travel to Nairobi before flying to Asia on
Saturday. We are going to miss Kiburanga.
